[Graphic Novel] Empire Of The Dead - Act One

Zombies vs. Humans vs. Vampires.

This graphic novel has Romero written all over it. It has his signature marks that can be seen within his films, for instance, zombies that have remembered behaviour - such as Bub in 'Day of the Dead'. 

I'm not a huge vampire fan but this has a different meaning to me than just vampires. Romero gets very political with his vampires, which shows his interest in social themes and political issues. Something that I agree with profoundly - oppression by the higher social classes upon the lower classes, just because they have the wealth and basically, because they can. This issue is huge throughout the world. 

There is also reference to Barbara from 'Night of the Living Dead' which I was not expecting and I did appreciate this little tie in. 

Overall, a good read and I'm looking forward to Act Two.

Be Nosy In My Room! (Well, The Zombie Parts)

I thought you guys might be interested in seeing my zombie stuff as a whole, and I'm pretty proud of it so why not show it off!

Firstly, my famous Zombie Shelf! Which has been upgraded from a shelf, to shelves, to effectively now a corner.. This is where most of my stuff is, my graphic novels, books, DVDs, Walking Dead canvas, DEAD ALL OVER print, Night Of The Living Dead film cell, few random figures. And above it all, looking down, is the Godfather of Zombies - George A. Romero's autograph and picture!
I love this corner to bits - it's the masterpiece of my room.

Secondly, my funko pop shelf consisting of 21 Walking Dead characters! This took me a while to achieve and with the help of some of them being gifts I managed to get all the ones I have wanted so far. The first one I got was Bicycle Girl and the most recent one I got was the Woodbury Walker. I have two exclusives: Biker Daryl who is one of my favourites, and the Michonne and her Pets three set which is another of my favourites. I love these figures. I think they are brilliant figures considering I am not really a collector of figurines, but funko pop has a place in my heart.

Finally, above my bed I have a Walking Dead canvas print with Rick, Daryl, Michonne and Tyreese on it!

Hope everybody had a lovely Christmas and got many Zombie gifts to enjoy!

My family and friends know that I'm zombie mad so they didn't lack when it came to zombie-themed presents. The gifts I got were amazing!!

I received two amazing books - 'The Mammoth Book Of Zombies' edited by Stephen Jones which includes 26 stories all revolving around zombies. The second book I got was 'Can You Survive The Zombie Apocalypse?' by Max Brallier.

My favourite animals are penguins so I got this cool t-shirt with a zombie penguin on it.

I am so chuffed because this means I am one away from completing the set (one of each character, sod getting every single one) that I wish to achieve and that guy is The Woodbury Walker! Can't wait to nab him somewhere. I also love the Michonne three set! It's amazing!

I got a cool version of 'Where's Wally' but this ones called 'Where's The Zombie' by Paul Moran. It's such a cool book and I was so pleased when I got it, it made me laugh. I love it.

Britain Is Actually Prepared For A Zombie Apocalypse

Who would have thought it, reserved, 'we don't think zombies are real, that's preposterous', little old Britain is prepared for a possible attack by zombies.

Let's be honest here, we do have a pretty good advantage as it is. Geographically we couldn't really have a better location, we are an island and islands are surrounded by water, obviously, this is a huge advantage for us, we close the borders, close the airports, no one comes in, if you go out, you can't come back and we are pretty much sorted, the virus cannot spread to a country if its borders are closed... Unless we have zombies that can walk under water, or swim. Then we are sort of screwed.

We do have big, hefty, strong buildings which a zombie most definitely could not get into. Take Greenwich University for example. Big, strong buildings, surrounded by gates and fences and the Thames at one side for an escape route, or trade route via water. Sorted. Although, Greenwich is a densely populated area, so that would be a bit risky.

We do have countryside though. Miles and miles of grass and fields and forest. If you're a farmer, you have a chance - you need big fences though. Our land is very fertile too, we are able to grow crops to harvest, potatoes especially, as potatoes are the vegetables that keep people alive - it's true, we found that out in the 1500s when Columbus 'discovered' the New World. But unfortunately, our land isn't as good as the Americas, so they sort of one upped us there.

Another thing, England is full of underground bunkers from World War 1 and World War 2. We even have bunkers from when we feared a nuclear attack. They're probably haunted, but I guess that would be least of our worries.

Britain has an advance knowledge of filtration, plumbing and sanitation systems. I mean, we practically invented them. This would ensure clean water for everybody. Hooray.

We have medicine, raid the right places and you're in for a treat. There's a pharmacy on every corner, shame it's not the same for hospitals though.

The Minsitry Of Defence stated that 'in the event of an apocalyptic incident (eg zombies), any plans to rebuild and return England to its pre-attack glory would be led by the Cabinet a Office, and thus, any pre-planning activity would also taken place there.' And that their role would be to provide military support to civilians.

Ebola Victims 'Rise From The Dead' ?!

Okay so, anyone who has a television or access to the internet should know about the outbreak of Ebola amongst African countries. It has recently been reported that two victims of the virus have 'risen from the dead' just before they were about to be taken to burial. Both these cases were women, but they were however, in different villages.

Being a zombie maniac I'm surely not the only one who automatically thought of zombies when I saw this news article, right?

No, they are not cannibalistic and rising from the dead to eat the living, but this whole process of dying and coming back, is halfway defining a zombie.

As a zombie fan I of course have my theory of how the zombie apocalypse would happen, and of course, my zombie survival plan. My theory consistes of a virus, like Ebola, being spread. More like a mutated version of Ebola, along with rabies possibly and of course airborne too. My theory is that some idiot in a lab tested the wrong thing, mixed the wrong viruses and hey presto, created a super virus which causes a major plague, if you wish, and 'kills off' the majority of the population. Only the living have to defend themselves from these zombie like 'people' - who are zombie like purely because of the culmination of viruses in their system and the symptoms of these viruses causing havoc to no end. That's just my theory in short.

In all fairness, I'm quite worried about how this is all going to pan out.

Night Of The Living Dead Film Cell, TWD Comic #1 LFCC #3

My main posts about London Film and Comicon were ultimately based around me meeting George A. Romero. However, I did pick up a couple zombie related goodies which make really cool additions to my collection.

Firstly, I found a stall called A Place In Space, they caught my attention because they had a load of Walking Dead memorabilia, so of course, this drew me in. I was having a look at the books when I noticed the first ever Walking Dead comic for £3!! I thought this was amazing because I was often on eBay looking for one. Not necessarily a first print or anything I just thought it would be a great addition to my collection considering I had all the Walking Dead books. The comics on eBay were going for quite a bit of money, at least £10 so I bought it straight away, and for £3 you can't really argue.

Secondly, I bought a really cool a Night of the Living Dead film cell, they were four for £10 or £3 each, I love this sort of stuff so I got four, only one zombie related one though. The others I got were from The Godfather, Beetlejuice and The Jungle Book. Anyway, back to zombies! This film cell isn't from the original, it's from the 1990 remake which I think is brilliant anyway. It is so hard to take a picture of the film cell itself, but basically it is when brother and sister, Johnnie and Barbara are in the cemetery  and the zombie is coming towards them.

Overall, I am very pleased with my two purchases, I would have bought more but I spent £30 on Romero's autograph and £30 on the picture with him, so all in all a massive £60 just for that experience, and £21 for entry, leaving me with very little spending money!! I can't say it wasn't worth it though, because it entirely was.

I Met George A. Romero! ... Twice!! LFCC #2

As previously posted I attended London Film and Comicon 2014, I love conventions as it is but this one was very special indeed... I met George A. Romero! Not once, but twice and the experience for me will go down in my little personal history of great events in my life.

On the Friday after getting all the tickets for entry and for the photo with him, we had a wander around as usual, looking at all the cool art work and stalls full of figures, DVDs, all sorts of merchandise, you name it they had it.

Luckily for me, Romero was due to attended Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Which gave me many opportunities to meet him. On the Friday I had a look by all of the celebrities autograph tables to see if I could spot a glimpse of him. Sadly I did not and so I went on about my business. Friday preview ended at 9pm and around 8:30pm I gave it one last shot. I walked around to where his stall was and low and behold, there he was!! There was no queue so I nipped in there quick to get his autograph, I picked a print of him and Simon Pegg, purely because it was white and you would clearly be able to see his autograph on it. He was such a lovely man, I had my favourite 'ZOMBIES' t-shirt on to which he pointed and said 'zombies!' and laughed. I must admit I grinned like an idiot, I thought being star struck was a made up thing but I couldn't muster a word to say to him. He then said to me 'you'll have to get Simon to sign this next, does he ever come to these things?' I said 'I don't think he does!' And was laughing stupidly because I was so happy.

Funnily enough, I went to see Monty Python Live the Wednesday after, and who was a special guest? Only Simon Pegg himself, and there I was thinking I would never ever see him in my life. What a coincidence, but no, I did not get his autograph.

I then said bye and went home.

The next day I arrived bright and early to get my picture taken with him, I was waiting in the queue, checking myself in the mirror, as you do. But I was shaking, I was nervous and excited - it made me feel so weird with emotion. I got to the front and he shook my hand and said hi. I think he recognised me because of the way he looked at me and smiled, I would like to think that he recognised me anyway! He even asked me how I was! He then put his arm round me and I him and they took the picture. He then shook my hand again and said goodbye.

What a couple of days! I never thought I would ever meet my favourite director, especially due to his age and because he lives in Canada, and obviously I'm from London. He lived up to and beyond my expectations, he was the nicest man you would ever meet and I am so glad that he wasn't up himself at all. I don't think I will ever get this opportunity ever again so I'm so pleased that I did it when I could.

Pre-Apocalyptic Endeavours

Hello! My name is Sarah and let me introduce you to my new blog :)

My hero is George A. Romero, the Godfather of zombies and without him my interest and hobby would not be so passionate, so before I even start I want to thank him for his gory scripts and his love of zombies. 

So it all started about a year ago when I was first introduced to the television series 'The Walking Dead'. From the first episode I was hooked and I couldn't get enough, by then I had watched all the way through to season two within about two weeks, and luckily for me season three was coming out on DVD that September. Season three was just as good as the first two and I was thrilled to learn that season four would be airing that October! 

At first I felt a bit - out of the loop - having watched season one a whole three years after the original airing date (I was going to watch it, but I completely forgot!) but in a way I was glad because having it on DVD meant I could watch this endearing post-apocalyptic series straight through and whenever I wanted - without having to wait a week for the next episode, and several months for the next season. 

So, when season four hit, I was in the same boat as every other zombie fan out there - at the edge of my seat waiting for the next episode!  So, to keep me from constantly wanting to watch the show when the next episode was not even out yet, I turned to the comics, and what a great decision that was.

The Walking Dead helped kick start my passion again and Romero's films just made it accelerate even more.

All of this entwined was the beginning to my zombie collection, or obsession, which has led me to write this blog in order to share my collection of which I am very proud of and constantly adding to.  

Thank you, George A. Romero, Robert Kirkman, Charlie Adlard and Tony Moore for surfacing my innate love for zombies which was laying dormant for so many years.
